Breckenridge boasts a happening arts and culture scene that revolves around its colorful downtown National Historic District. A year-round calendar of events, including the Breckenridge Music Festival, Genuine Jazz Fest and a popular Fourth of July celebration, draw crowds with concerts, art shows and other festivities. Established in 1981, the Breckenridge Festival of Film has been giving hope to independent filmmakers and bringing a touch of the arts to Breckenridge for nearly 27 years. Hosted yearly by nationally-recognized NBC-TV film critic Jeffery Lyons, the festival offers a week long array of seminars, retrospectives, independent films, new releases and black-tie galas.
The Festival has hosted such guests as Alan Arkin, James Earl Jones, Robert Loggia, Marsha Mason, Sydney Pollack, Mary Steenburgen, Donald Sutherland, Eva Marie Saint, Jon Voight, Lou Diamond Phillips, Jon Favreau, Michael York and in 2005, Jo Beth Williams and Connie Nielsen.

The carefully preserved buildings lining Main Street date back to the 1880s and 1890s, and today house upscale boutiques, gourmet restaurants, microbreweries and high-end art galleries. The Summit Historical Society curates the Breckenridge Historical Museum on South Main Street and provides walking tours of the district. |

Each summer, Breckenridge plays host to some of the most talented, young orchestral musicians in the country. Founded in 1960 by the late Walter Charles, the National Repertory Orchestra is a training ground for approximately 85 symphonic musicians, ages 18 - 24. The orchestra performs at the Riverwalk Center twice weekly throughout the summer season, as well as in a number of other smaller chamber performances around town. |

Nestled in the heart of this historic mining town, the Riverwalk Center, a multifaceted, award-winning performing arts facility is the focal point for summer activities. The performance venue is an 774 seat, radiantly heated amphitheater covered in the summer by a tent structure. The lawn area expands capacity to 2000 people. The Riverwalk Center is the host to an array of colorful cultural affairs, including classical performances by the National Repertory Orchestra (NRO) and the Breckenridge Music Festival Orchestra (BMF), the Blue River Series, Fourth of July concerts and activities, jazz concerts, rock concerts, dance troupes, kids concert series, weddings and much, much more. In the spring of 2008, the Town plans to add a permanent roof to the Riverwalk structure, replacing the signature white tents, which have been a hallmark of the arts in Breckenridge for nearly 15 years. |
